The sabre-toothed cat (Smilodon populator) was one of South America’s most fearsome predators during the Ice Age, weighing up to 400 kilograms. With long flat fangs, powerful front paws, and sharp claws, it stalked large prey. While there were several species of sabre-toothed cats in Eurasia and the Americas, they were not closely related to modern tigers. These predators became extinct about 8,000 years ago, likely due to the disappearance of large herbivores. They hunted large animals through ambushes, preying on species like toxodons, macrauchenia, giant armadillos, and horses. Today, the largest herbivores in the Pampas are too small to support such a predator, with the nandu, a 20-kilogram flightless bird, being one of the biggest.
Saber-toothed cat wall art print is printed on high-quality off-white paper, which is FSC certified for responsible forestry. Each poster is checked manually to ensure superb quality. Made in Finland. The wall art is sold unframed. See frame options here.
